Over the last few years, awareness of the damaging effects of plastics and specifically micro plastics in the ocean and food chain has become a mainstream concern. However, as a sustainably focused designer this is something that I have been acutely aware of since long before even starting Nodus.
When Nodus was founded we made a commitment to ourselves to be as sustainable in our business practices as we could, and with that in mind we have always aimed to make sure that our products and packaging are designed to either be 100% compostable and or 100% recyclable. With that in mind, we have historically used commonly and easily recyclable plastics in our packaging and made some exceptions and used plastics in our products when no other material could provide the properties required.
As part of our commitment to continually improve on our environmental footprint we significantly reduced the plastic used in our packaging back in 2018 by removing the clear polyethylene (PET) window on the front of our iPhone case packaging and have now managed to successfully design out the last remaining PET part in our Micro Dock packaging for the next and all future production runs.
There is still more to do to make our business as sustainable as possible and that remains one of our key goals. Top of the list is to become 100% plastic free, along our entire supply chain from raw materials, production, packaging and fulfillment, so watch this space.
